The Noise 2007 Year in Review Part 5a: Addicted to TV #1

I watched way too much television this year, which explains the slight weight gain I accrued during the last year. Back in October, when I got the DVR added to my Comcast service, I thought this would mean that I’d get off my ass and did more away from home. It backfired. Now I watch MORE tv and overwhelmed myself with even more that I need to try and catch up on. The ongoing Writers’ Strike in Hollywood have dampened the spirits of many tv goers, but that hasn’t stopped the networks from pulling crap out of their ass to fill the airwaves. I salute the writers because if it wasn’t for writers, the major networks wouldn’t have a leg to stand on. The writers create the shows that make TV execs the money. It’s a travesty that the writers are not fairly compensated for their hard work, time, effort and imagination to create the great shows that are on television. I hope they resolve the situation soon because the writers deserve better. Besides, I gotta know how the phenomenial reinvention of Battlestar Galactica resolves itself. I must know that. Anyway, here are the highlights of my television viewing for 2007.

Reality TV Show Faves:

6. Top Chef 3 (Bravo)

5. What Not to Wear (TLC)

4. The Real Estate Pros (TLC)

3. Property Ladder (TLC)

2. Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D List (Bravo)

1. Little People Big World (TLC) - Little People is one of the few shows where I walk away from every episode cheering on the Roloff family. You actually care about them and care about what happens to them. You can’t say that about the idiots that sign up for shows like A Shot of Love or Flavor of Love.

Guilty TV Pleasure of the Year

Monique’s Charm School (VH1) - Monique’s Charm School (offshoot from Flavor Flav’s Flavor of Love) featured the most animated group of trash-talking, ghetto-fabulous girls on the planet. It featured various women from the two seasons of Flavor of Love battling it out for $50,000. The show was definitely not without scandal and bitch fights. It was entertaining television, that is for sure. At the end of the day, it’s ghetto, but I enjoyed it. Besides, it spawned one of my favorite quotes of the year:

“It’s like a big ass game of Clue.” - Becky

HGTV Design Show Favorites

6. Find Your Style (Karen McAloon)

5. Spice Up My Kitchen (Lauren Lake)

4. Designed to Sell/Secrets That Sell (tie) (Lisa LaPorta; Donna and Shannon Freeman)

3. 24 Hour Design (Angelo Surmelis)

2. Color Splash (David Bromstad)

1. Divine Design (Candace Olson)

Most DVR’ed Shows

3. Chelsea Lately (E!) (Chelsea Handler)

2. ANYTHING Kathy Griffin (Bravo) (Kathy Griffin)

1. Divine Design (Candace Olson)

My TV Crush of the Year (Male) - David Bromstad (Color Splash)/Angelo Surmelis (24 Hr Design) (tie)

My TV Crush of the Year (Female) - Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica/Bionic Woman)
